Racism, Ego, Accountability

Welcome back warriors, A lot has been going on since my last post, and I want to talk about some of it with you guys. If you have read my previous blogs you should know that I am not anti-law enforcement. I say this because I’m going to come down pretty hard on law enforcement on this one.

I believe that you and most people in law enforcement choose that career path so they can make their community a better place. And that’s great, that is a great reason to be a part of a law enforcement organization. But as we are seeing all over the world, it only takes a few people to ruin it for the rest of the law enforcement community. Sometimes it only takes one person to ruin it.

Case in point, I watched the murder of George Floyd, along with millions of other people. And people are right to be mad that it happened, the people are right to be mad that situations like that happened before and continue to happen. There should be no doubt in your mind that those cops messed up. But what lead those four cops to kill that man? In my opinion, there are a few factors. The first one I’m going to talk about is racism. Do we know for an absolute fact that was a factor? Maybe not, but I ask you this. If George Floyd where a white man in a suit, how many of you think he would still be alive? Another factor, ego. This cop that put his knee on George Floyd’s neck and kept it there did it because of ego. I saw the look in his eyes that said I’m doing this because I know you want me to let him up but, I don’t have to. In my opinion, he kept his knee on Mr. Floyd’s neck just to say to the bystanders I’m in charge here.

Why else was Mr. Floyd murdered? Perhaps there has been a lack of accountability. Some of those officers had some very substantial complaints against them. But yet they are still allowed to go on the streets and enforce our laws. It doesn’t take to long to find out if you’re going to be an asset to the law enforcement community, or if you belong out on the streets dealing with the public. And if these officers can’t handle it or if they do not have the mental capacity to deal with the public, then their supervisors need to hold them accountable. Get them off the streets where they can hurt someone or bring discredit to your law enforcement organization.

Like I said George Floyd’s death was just one of many, too many in fact, due to bad police work. These incidents are happening far too often all over the world. If you in the law enforcement community couldn’t see the dangers of a few bad police officers then you should be able to now. These poor decisions made by bad officers have put you in danger. You now have to be out there dealing with protests and angry people. And it is a hard job to try to keep the peace but it is yours to do now because of a few bad cops.

If you are becoming a law enforcement officer because you had a hard time growing up and you see this as a chance to punish people, Don’t do it! Supervisors, it is up to you to vet these people out. And it is up to everyone to hold your fellow officers accountable. Remember you should join a law enforcement organization because you want to help your community. You use the minimum force required to uphold the law. Do not let your ego get you in trouble. Your job is not to be a judge(unless you are a judge). Deadly force is a last resort and just know that if you use it and it was not warranted you will be held accountable.

I just want to see all of you be successful as law enforcement officers. And make it home safe every day. And as always comments and questions are very welcome. Stay safe out there.
