Welcome back warriors, so as you can see in the title we are going to talk a little about riot control and what went wrong in the video. And believe me, it went wrong!
Let me start by saying Riot Police are there to regain control, that being said, it’s pretty safe to assume you’re going to be going into some chaotic situations. So after watching this video, I noticed right off there where riot police there, but they were not set or ready to be effective. It was kind of like they got there gear but not sure how to handle the situation, just all-around lost. And that without a doubt is due to lack of training for that situation, or even more likely no training.
We can observe that the riot police start to push forward to assist their fellow officers, but there was no coordinated movement, no effort to move as a single unit. In one part of the video, you can see an officer swinging his shield around. I have no idea what he is trying to accomplish, but whatever he is doing its ridiculous. It is just another instance of no training or improper training. If you find your self in a situation where you have to swing around your shield like an idiot, you should stop advancing on your own and try to retreat to your line. Another issue I see while watching this video I have no idea who is in charge, and it’s probably a safe bet that the officers don’t know who is in charge. Also, you can see that there spread out thin so probably not effective. I inserted an image below of some basic riot control formations that you might find useful.
Ok, so now we come to where there is an officer who thinks he is Floyd Mayweather. I’m not 100% sure what he was thinking. I’m sure he is tough or at least I’m sure he thinks he’s tough. but the truth is he is an idiot. Probably not all his fault but what was his plan, fight a 100 angry people? All he was doing is creating a dangerous situation, for himself and the officer that was holding him back. I wonder if the officer trying to pull him back was the officer in charge. If that guy that was pulling him back got hurt, then what? I guess it doesn’t matter because clearly there really wasn’t anyone in charge there. But I hope you are understanding my point. The reason for riot control is to move as a unit or team. If you go out on your own all your doing is creating a dangerous situation, no matter how strong you think you are. This is why it is so important to train for these situations. Another thing no your equipment. What I mean is I’m seeing these officers and some of them have helmets some don’t, If you look to your left and right and see the guys there wearing helmets, and you don’t have one, you’re in the wrong place and probably going to get hurt.
Ok, so as we progress towards the end of the video the riot officers have assembled a decent line, and they are looking more like a single unit rather than a bunch of individuals. So that leads me to believe they knew how to but for whatever reason it just took them to long to figure it out. Maybe some leadership finally showed up on the scene. So a big take away from this is there is no substitution for training.
Ok, that wraps up this post I hope you found it informative and as always I love hearing back from my readers. So feel free to ask me anything or leave a comment. I will make it my goal to answer or respond to you guys. And remember to stay safe.
